Top 10 Songs to Crank Up on Payday

January 23, 2018

Although not recognized as a national holiday, payday can often bring more joy to our lives than New Year’s Day and the Fourth of July combined. To help you live out the happiest days of the month, here is our payday playlist that is sure to keep spirits high all day long.

1. “On Top of the World” — Imagine Dragons

If you love somebody
Better tell them why they’re here ’cause
They just may run away from you

Yes, this is a metaphor for your paycheck, which per some of our spending habits, will be running away from us pretty quickly.

2. “Daylight” — Matt and Kim

No pithy lyrics about money here, just a happy song for a happy day.

3. “Best Day of My Life” — American Authors

This is gonna be the best day of my life
My li-i-i-i-i-ife

Let this be an ode to all who experience the best day of their lives every 15th and 30th of the month—you know who you are.

4. “Move Your Feet” — Junior Senior

Otherwise known as that one song from the Kohl’s commercial, this early 2000s dance jam is the perfect choice for rocking out payday.

5. “Walking on Sunshine” — Katrina & the Waves

And I don’t want to spend my whole life, just waiting for you
Now I don’t want you back for the weekend
Not back for a day, no no no
I said baby I just want you back
And I want you to stay (Oh yeah now!)

It can’t be proven that Katrina & the Waves were singing about their paychecks in this song, but hey, we’re sure some of you have felt this way toward your money at some point or another.

6.”Money Honey” — Elvis Presley

And asked him to tell me what’s on his mind
He said,
Money, honey, uh uh

In this classic tune, The King reminds us all that money is truly what’s on everybody’s mind. When payday rolls around, we certainly aren’t any exception to that rule.

7. “I Need a Dollar” — Aloe Blacc

And I said I need dollar dollar
A dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me

Use this song as an anthem for the next time your check comes in a little less than expected.

8. “Money Changes Everything” — Cyndi Lauper

No lyrics necessary here. The title holds the key. Money changes everything, especially what you will be eating the night after you get paid.

9. “Taxman” — The Beatles

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

That moment when you compare gross and net pay.

10. “Money (That’s What I Want)” — Barrett Strong

The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Now give me money,
That’s what I want.

If you won’t say it, then Barrett Strong will.
