What Parents Need to Know About Signing Up for a Trump Account

July 08, 2026

On May 28, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the launch of the Trump Accounts mobile application, which will serve as the primary platform for families participating in the federal Trump Accounts program. The app allows parents and guardians to activate, manage, and monitor eligible children's accounts and is available through major mobile app stores. Treasury stated that the program is intended to promote long-term saving and investing among young Americans.

To enroll a child, a parent, guardian, or other authorized individual must submit IRS Form 4547, either through their IRS online account or by filing out the form with their federal tax return. Applicants must verify their identity through ID.me, provide basic information about themselves and their child, and certify that they are authorized to open the account. Eligible children must be under age 18 and have a valid Social Security number.

Families who have already submitted Form 4547 will receive activation emails from [email protected] with instructions for completing account setup through the app or website. Treasury officials emphasized that they will not contact participants by text message or unsolicited phone calls and urged families to use only official program channels to avoid scams.

Beginning July 4, 2026, Trump Accounts will be able to receive contributions from parents, relatives, employers, charitable organizations, and other eligible contributors. Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who meet program requirements are also eligible for a one-time $1,000 federal pilot-program contribution after their account is activated.
